Cragside 5k & 10k 2019 – Race report
Crisp Saturday morning at the picturesque Cragside setting up for the popular 10k race along with the addition of the NEW 5k route.
With over 500 people in attendance for the 10k all made their way to that start line, a nice 15-minute incline – a great warm up for the runners. While the 40, 5k runners made their way in the opposite direction to their start.
The 10k is a beautiful but hilly run starting with a 2k decent and then the hills kick in, but it’s not all bad as when you get to 8k its all downhill again to the finish.
Regular Run Nation runner - Daniel Alexander of Gateshead Harriers & AC was first to cross the finish line with a fantastic time of 00:33:42, followed closely by Patrick Donald who came 2nd in 00:33:57 and in 3rd place was Mark Snowball from Morpeth Harriers & AC who completed the 10k in 00:34:07.
Elaine Mckechnie from Gosforth Harriers & AC was the first female to finish the 10k with a great time of 00:42:27, Dawn Cooper from Derwent Valley Running Club was just over a minute behind, racing home in 00:43:53 and Katherine Downie from Gateshead Harriers & AC was just on Dawn’s heels coming in 5 seconds behind at 00:43:58.
5k – Well done to 13-year-old Bertie Marr from Morpeth Harriers & AC who did amazingly well completing the 5k in an impressive 00:18:27, Ryan Davies followed in second place with a great time of 00:19:28 and well done to Ian Ruddick who came in 3rd place with a time of 00:20:00.
